Toad PRIDE

At Coalinga High School, we believe in demonstrating Toad PRIDE daily in the classroom, on campus, and in the community. Toad PRIDE is not a program, rather it is a “systems approach” for establishing the social culture and individualized behavior support needed for CHS to achieve both social and academic success for ALL students. PRIDE is an acrostic representation of our umbrella expectations as they depict what it means to be a student at CHS. In order to achieve Toad PRIDE, CHS has specific behavior expectations to guide student behavior. Within each setting, the expectation looks different and is tailored not only to the change in setting but to the specific behavior we want exhibited in that area.

Toad PRIDE

Toad PRIDE signs are posted all over campus including the front of school and on trash cans. At all times, we want students to show Toad PRIDE.

Trash Can

P – Personal Responsibility (Be on time, be prepared, keep your area clean)

R – Resourcefulness (Try to solve a problem on your own, Read instructions thoroughly, think before you act)

I – Integrity (Turn your own work in, Be a leader, Be honest, Be where you are supposed to be)

D - Determination (Never give up, Challenge yourself, Always keep trying, Be college and career ready)

E - Empathy (Remember your classmates have feelings, Help your peers, Be respectful and kinds to staff)

An essential aspect of the Toad PRIDE system is establishing a Behavioral Expectations Matrix. In every classroom at CHS, those behavioral expectations are posted for students to follow and provide guidance on how students should behave in the classroom, around campus, and in the community. The behavior matrix was created with the input of staff members at CHS and with the intention of fostering positive behavior at all times.

Behavior Matrix

In every classroom there is a Behavioral Expectations Matrix posted for how students can demonstrate Toad PRIDE in the classroom.

Another essential aspect of the Toad PRIDE system are the classroom lessons that center on Personal Responsibility, Resourcefulness, Integrity, Determination, and Empathy. Every week, ALL CHS students receive a short lesson about one or more of the elements of PRIDE. The lessons are designed to be short, meaningful, and intentional to encourage students to demonstrate Toad PRIDE at all times. Incoming 9th Grades are explicitly taught the tenets of Toad PRIDE in their Freshman Success class through CHS's Portrait of a Coalinga High School Graduate.

Portrait of a Graduate

To ensure that ALL STUDENTS embrace the core values of Toad PRIDE, every year students sign a contract to show their commitment to CHS. By signing this contract, students acknowledge that they are accountable for upholding the values of Toad PRIDE. They understand that adherence to these principles is essential for creating a positive and conducive learning environment at CHS. As a Horned Toad, they pledge to embody these values in their actions and interactions, both within the school community and beyond.

Contract

Every year, students a Coalinga High School sign a contract to demonstrate their commitment to Toad PRIDE.

With a focus on a growth mindset, the staff and administration at Coalinga High School continues to evolve and develop the Toad PRIDE system so that students are supported, cared for, graduate, and are set up for success beyond high school.
