What Ana Does to Show Toad PRIDE: In the midst of the glimmer and glamour of the Friday Night Lights where the football team, cheerleaders, and band take center stage, there are students that are quietly participating in programs that build strong character, instill deep PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, and provide unique opportunities for success beyond high school. For Senior Ana Carranza Biebrich, she has found that competing in high school rodeo and participating in Future Farmers of America (FFA) at Coalinga High School has helped her to build strong character, responsibility, and cast a vision for her future. Interesitngly enough, Ana has only been competing in the rodeo circuit for just under a year and quickly found an interest to compete after her mother bought the family mare aptly named Shades. Ana’s mother and father have competed in rodeo for a number of years as a barrel racer and tie down roper respectively, so Ana asked her mother if she could train her so that she could compete in college. From that moment on, Ana committed herself to the craft of riding a horse, eventually learning how to barrel, pole, and rope goats from the saddle of Shades. As Ana grew in confidence, she joined the California Junior Cowboys Association (CJCA) to participate in official competitions and will open competition on September 18 for the California High School Rodeo Association (CHSRA) District 6 Region. Ana has experienced some success in rodeo as she won her first buckle this past August at King City for the 4th Annual Classy Ladies Classic Barrel Race. Beyond the success she has experienced, it has been the dedication and DETERMINATION she has created for herself in rodeo which means the most to her. “I mean I am trusting a 1,500 pound animal with my life when they can do whatever they want, whenever they want,” Ana humbly states, “It takes a lot of work and dedication to be better with every competition. Rodeo is a sport filled with hard work, dedication, and a never quit mentality.”
Ana Carranza Biebrich has been only competing in High School Rodeo and quickly fallen in love with her horse Shades and the events she competes in.
In addition to the competition of rodeo life, Ana has found joy in studying and learning about various aspects of agriculture as a student in FFA. Ana’s father was a member of his FFA program in high school and encouraged her to try it out and so she did, establishing herself as a fixture for the CHS FFA program. Entering her fourth year in FFA, Ana has assumed numerous roles including Sentinel, Reporter, and Treasurer while earning her Chapter and State FFA degrees over the past two years. Ana has competed in FFA competitions to sharpen her public speaking skills and has earned accolades including a 5th place finish at the West Fresno Madera (WFM) FFA Competition and as a junior qualified as a California State Spanish Creed Speaking Contest Finalist. Beyond the educational opportunities that Ana has experienced, she is quick to recognize individuals in the FFA program that have accepted her and have made her feel welcome. “When I first got into the FFA program, I met a girl named Kiely (who would become my best friend) and Mrs. Rodela, and they were very welcoming to me,” graciously states Ana, “They made me feel like I did belong here and that helped me really become outgoing and enjoy FFA more.” For the PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and DETERMINATION she has to compete in rodeo and for the hard work and RESOURCEFULNESS she displays as a student in CHS’s FFA program, Ana Carranza Biebrich has Toad PRIDE.
As a student in the Coalinga High School FFA Program, Ana Carranza Biebrich has been recognized for her ability to deliver meaningful speeches around agricultural issues.
What Toad PRIDE Means to Ana: “To me Toad PRIDE means many things. The main thing for me about Toad PRIDE will always be to show our school spirit and responsibility. It takes a lot from students for teachers to show us all the components of Toad PRIDE and with that, we have to be responsible for the lessons and behaviors that they are teaching. Toad PRIDE also shows off our school spirit as we are showing what being a Horned Toad is all about.”
